When one reads the book of Acts, we see how a small group of people turned the world upside down by the preaching of the Gospel. One of the main themes of the book of Acts is the advancement of the kingdom of God. We find the story of how thousands of people in a short period of time came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The gospel overcame many barriers and brought Jews, Samaritans, and Gentiles into the one church of Jesus Christ. As we compare the church of the book of Acts with the modern church, we can see that the church of our time appears to be weak and powerless. In this introduction to the book of Acts, Fr. Toms encourages the church to repent of its weakness and seek the power of the Holy Spirit that we might once again be that mighty force that can change the world.
