Though all of us carry the heavy burdens of the sorrows and trials of this world, the heaviest load of all is the burden of sin. The longer we live in sin, the heavier this burden becomes. Since most people are not even aware of the guilt of sin that they are carrying with them, Christians need to pray that the Holy Spirit would make people aware of this heavy load of the guilt of sin that will ultimately crush them. In this sermon, Fr. Toms points out that the good news of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ came into this world to die on the cross to remove the burden of sin from us. The church must continue to preach how all people have broken God’s holy law, and the consequence of this disobedience is the carrying of the heavy load of the guilt of sin. It is only when people feel this burden of sin that they will run to Christ, begging him for mercy to remove it.
