The Sin of Despising God (Isaiah 1:4)

As human beings, we do not realize the depth of human sin. When we are called upon to confess that we are sinners, few people realize what a sinner actually is. The prophet Isaiah points out that we are not people who have made a few inadvertent, incidental mistakes. Isaiah points out that by nature, we despise God because he is holy. In this message, Fr. Toms points out that instead of embracing the moral beauty of God, we turn away from it with loathing. By living in disobedience to God’s word, we demonstrate how much we actually despise him. Bu there is hope even for those who despise God. Saul of Tarsus despised our Lord Jesus Christ, his teaching, and his church, and yet became the Apostle Paul, Christ’s greatest missionary/evangelist. God can still transform those who despise him and his word, so that he might love and adore his holiness.
