The Sin of Forsaking God (Isaiah 1:4)

God looks upon his relationship with his people as a marriage. When people are married, they pledge to be faithful to one another. When we enter into a covenant relationship with God through Jesus Christ, we make a commitment to be faithful to him. The sad history of the people of God throughout their history is that God’s bride abandons Him. In this sermon, Fr. Toms explains from Scripture than when we love anything more than we love God, we are guilty of spiritual adultery. This message explains why we are so prone to the sin of abandoning the God with whom we have entered into covenant and the horrible consequences of such desertion. But God, in his mercy, wants his unfaithful spouse to return to him, so he sends them his servants to call people to repentance. Though people have abandoned the Lord, God is longsuffering and calls his bride to return to him.
